Many chapters but quite fast to read, and very interesting. Babylon is without doubt one of the most amazing cities in history. There is a wealth of data in this short work that makes you search more and more. The only part it was not that clear to me was about the origins of Babylon, the author mentions two stages: one between the 27th and 23th centuries in an stage of peace and gender equality (a favorite theme of the author); a second between 29th and 25th centuries in which the women loss that equality and cities would get walls. My doubt is about how these two different stages are coexisting or overlapping, even more the second stage seems older. Also the author mentions there are some prejudices that people considers the refined civilization in Babylon a primitive one. Is strange because till today is known that Babylon was the center of important scientific discoveries and cultural heritage that survive to this day, I mean, it is popular knowledge.., Beyond those points the book is clear to me.If you want to know more about Babylon you could read the books Asimov wrote about Mesopotamia and even the one about the New Testament. The author in this book mentions Babylon in the book of Revelation as an analogy of sin, but Asimov I think gives a better explanation: Babylon instead is an analogy of Rome, put that way to avoid censorship of the Roman Empire or even a lethal accusation of treason, in the same way that the name of Nero was hidden in the number 616. Likewise if you want to read more about the fascinating mythology of the Babylonians the book "The Babylonian Legends of the Creation" by Sir E. A. Wallis is superb.
